As Passover and Easter draw near, it is a time to remember and celebrate God's love for his children and His all-surpassing power to set us free from the chains that bind us.
I wrote this poem many years ago as I was reflecting on God's tenderness and love. I hope it speaks to someone who is also hurting and broken, someone who is desperate to be loved, but you aren’t sure if that is even possible anymore...
Take My Hand Dear Child
Our Father in heaven knew just what to do
He gave his Son for me and for you
He paid the ultimate price to set us free
Although guilty of no crime, He endured our penalty
He rose again and in heaven He lives
He is patient and kind and yearns to forgive
If only I'll ask Him to cleanse me from sin
He waits with open arms to welcome me in
He kisses me tenderly while in His embrace
As I look up at Him, tears gently roll down His face
"I love you," He says, as he wipes my cheek soiled with dirt
Come, let me wash you and tend to your hurts
But Father, I have so many scars from the places I have been
I am dirty and scarred and broken within
Take my hand dear child and follow me wherever I go
I will take small steps and hold your hand; I will make you whole, so you will know…
I am your Father and you are my Beloved Child
Even though I continually make poor choices that ultimately leave me wounded, there is One I can trust completely. One I can run to in times of trouble. One who is always there waiting with open arms. One who loves me no matter how badly I mess up.
My friend, it does not matter where you have been or all that you have done.
If you are being held prisoner by your past, if you are hurting, wounded, or scarred by your own choices or by choices of others, through no fault of your own, there is One who loves you dearly. He is waiting with open arms, ready to gently wash the dirt away and tenderly heal your wounds.
What are you waiting for my friend? Run to Him today…He is waiting for you!
Ephesians 2:8-10 "God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
Matthew 11:28 "Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Zephaniah 3:17 “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
Blessings!
